Hi there! It’s great that you’ve taken time out of your day to explore this opening to my mind. I’ve had a really strong desire to start a blog for the longest time, and this year I finally decided to go for it. 2017 has been the year of “Live your best life” for me, and this has been my motto and guiding principle throughout. Even when my bank account occasionally gave me looks of disapproval, your girl still did the damn thing on a budget. But I digress.
So, more insight into why I started this blog. I was born and raised in Zimbabwe, right in the heart of the capital city, Harare, AKA “Sunshine City”.
One might never realise this until they actually leave the country, but Zimbabwe is almost like a “bubble” of its own. Everyone knows everyone, and the same people recreate in pretty much the same places. Alas, it is not difficult to understand why most people think alike and tend to share very similar, conservative views on various controversial topics. It was not until I left my beautiful Zimbabwe to study abroad, that I realised just how rigid and narrow the opinions I had once before held, really were. It is true, indeed, that travelling, and even living away from home, are great recipes for opening up the mind.
I have lived in Canada for two years now, and no, my accent has not changed LOL. Being so far away from home has helped me to grow up quickly (despite the fact that if you are Zimbabwean, this automatically happens once your age reaches double digits and you immediately have to begin your career in Dishwashing and Floor-sweeping operatives in the home Haha). Simply put, my mind has broadened significantly, and I have been able to learn more and improve myself endlessly. This, I celebrate.
I also truly miss writing – it’s one of my passions. I can almost feel the old Literature student in me being revived, and I am so thoroughly excited to finally have a platform to express myself on!
What should you expect from my blog posts?
Expect to be challenged a little. I have every intention of asking questions, posing statements, and quoting perspectives that will pick at your brain and maybe even open up your mind slightly.
Expect to learn. More than anything, I want to be a resource of education on issues which we typically brush off or refuse to address. I am not, of course, an expert in any particular field, but I do hold an opinion and I do have lived experiences (like everyone else) which have allowed me to form these opinions. Hey, you might even recognise something you’ve said which may have stood out to me, in one of my blog posts. Take little offence here, I mean well.
Expect to giggle. Anyone who knows me will attest to the fact that I LOVE a good, thunderous laugh. Sure, you might not find yourself screaming or LOL-ing through all of my posts, but don’t be shy to “low-key” smirk when one of my dry jokes actually tickles your cheeks.
Above all, expect to have fun. I mean, I’m enjoying the process of putting together this content at 2 am in the morning, and I can only hope that you enjoy reading through it and perhaps even give me some feedback so we can all experience growth together in a sort of symbiotic relationship.
